James Spader (Boston Legal) has been cast as the titular bad-guy du jour in The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron. Great casting but this does raise a few questions.
Firstly, this may discount the theory that’s been floating around regarding JARVIS, Iron Man’s own AI, somehow malfunctioning and becoming Ultron. This rumour arose from the confirmation that Hank Pym, AKA Antman, will not be the creator of Ultron, and that Tony Stark will somehow have something to do this. Now maybe this theory will still work, perhaps Ultron will be an upgrade from JARVIS that goes badly wrong? Paul Bettany who voices JARVIS in the Iron Man films has yet to be confirmed for The Avengers 2 so perhaps this is a case of replacement casting or finding someone better suited to a big role?
Another question brought up is whether Spader will just be voicing Ultron, or whether he will make an appearance as some kind of hologram or perhaps in some kind of mo-cap form, maybe as some kind of robot.
Either way, this is brilliant casting and will serve the franchise well. Avengers 2 is expected in summer 2015, along with any other film you care to mention, it’s sure going to be a busy summer!
